Coventry proves to be another popular venue for the association as the club offered the warmest of welcomes and a well presented course for our 9th meeting of the season.
And it was Mark Gershinson (Hartsbourne) who set the early pace with a magnificent three under 70 in round one dropping just one shot against a total of 4 birdies. David Price (Test Valley) kicked off his tournament with a level par 73 to be three back with James Weigall (Banstead) and Richard Black (Porters Park) one shot further back but both well in touch for day two.
Compared to the windy test of Wales the weather was kind and fairways generous. The 5th hole on day two proved to be very kind to Andrew Elmey (Frilford Heath) as he achieved his first ever hole in one and capitalised on it with a level par round of 73 to move up the leaderboard.
The rest of round two was all about the chase and regular top performers Mike Ready (The Melbourne), Gareth Bradley (Bramhall) and Keith Morris (Camberley Heath) all managed to go under par to put the pressure on Mark. A total of 15 birdies between the three of them in round two played a massive part in that chase. But Mark himself posted another level par round to maintain his 3 under total to win by 4 shots and collect the gold medal and another 250 maximum OOM points to improve his ranking for next year's ESGA.
Gareth Bradley's 147 total was enough for Silver while David Price collects Bronze on 148.
David Price, fresh from his European success at ESGA, proved to be top score in the Super Seniors Section with the crystal going to 2nd place Malcolm Cawte (Selsey GC) on 151.
David was top in the Net event too with a stunning 6 under for his two rounds closely followed by Paul Earland (RAC) and Mark Gershinson both 5 under and one shot back. Enjoy those new handicaps chaps! Paul wins crystal on countback.
And it was Jimmy Johnston again in the Masters Section to top that pile and pick up some more crystal with the in-form Conrad Mazen just 2 behind him.
Ian Dawkins (Rothley Park) was top OOM point winner for the ESGA 75+ team qualification.

The Race to ESGA begins to hot up and take shape as we are now over halfway through this year's qualification. With our software company finally banishing our gremlins we have the OOMs back up and running. Click HERE to see the latest rankings.
In the main event Gareth Bradley consolidates his position at the top and already looks impossible to catch. Malcolm Cawte moved into 4th spot in the absence at Coventry of those around him and also hold top spot in the net AND top spot in the Super Seniors scratch. Mike Ready also closed the gap to 6th spot with another strong showing. Jimmy Johnston has a strong hold on the Masters leaderboard and its Robert Gill at the top of the ESGA 75+ qualification.
But its certainly too early to count your chickens with 7 events to go and its Woodcote Park GC in Surrey up next with late entry spots available for those hoping to challenge in the Race to ESGA.
